“We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!”

J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit or There and Back Again

Tolkien lived to age 81

Today’s quote comes from one of my favorite books to read and read again. I will never tire of The Hobbit. I can’t really pinpoint why, but I enjoy this book so much more than Lord of the Rings. I suppose because it’s less of a long drawn out epic.

This quote makes me laugh now because it’s describing my life, now at 33 years old. My daily considerations really do involve whether we could put dinner out on time. Life with a husband and a toddler–it’s a very different life than my twenties, that’s for sure.

Still, an adventure now and again would be just the thing.
