Context: Charlie’s internal thoughts about watching his father “give up”. Throughout Silvey’s novel, Charlie observes his father backing down from confrontation frequently, and he can’t quite understand why. He also wishes his father would fight. Fight for his marriage, fight for what he believes in.

The quote stuck out to me because I can be non confrontational because it’s easier. I need to learn that there are SOME THINGS that are worth holding on to.
